Quiring Towing- Volvo EC380D Excavator Stuck pt.1

An unfortunate event where an excavator slid into a settling pond when the berm failed under it.The machine was completely on its side submerged. The engine stopped when it ingested water and is dead. The machine only has about 300 hours on it .this was filmed on the second day of recovery,The power from the D9 cat pulling also broke the final drive off,it sheared the inside bolts all off.The first day was used getting it to this starting point.Recovery Contractor is Quiring Towing of Aldergrove ,BC

Do you know that Christianity is correct? The world around us reveals that G-d DOES exist, and the historical evidence reveals that Jesus Christ really did come to this earth and there is overwhelming evidence that Jesus Christ really did physically rise from the dead. Jesus is coming again and the signs of the end times that were foretold in the Bible are coming to pass.

ah that might be true cause i have a takeuchi tl 130 skid steer and it does have brakes that are pressure activated – forgot about that – when you stop moving brakes are automatically activated – i have a bobcat 753 that isnt the same and it could be unhooked because it doesnt have pressure brakes – guess it depends on the machine – thanks

  4. skadill says:

No,The brakes are always on,and only released with hydraulic pressure. The other way is to remove the final drive cover and remove the centre shaft that drives the 3 sun gears

  5. flyinasscritter says:

cant you unhook the lines to the final drives also- so that there is no pressure in the drives and it just turns freely – but in the mud it prob a bad ideal-

Nigel, just watched the recovery videos. First class. 20 years under water and mud and she started with fresh oil and filters and minimal work.

Seems to me that they were towing it INTO the hill, if they would have had the cats closer they would have pulled it up the hill. But then again I`m on my couch not at the site. Thanks for the vid.

All excavators have a brake release, read your manual, just cost a lot cause you didnt get mechanic.

  12. TheHairybaz says:

yep needs to be an easier recovery plan put in by manufacturers

  13. Len Garson says:

Hope that the machine was de- watered and going again, I know on some 360’s you can mecanically release the brakes to allow towing, but not sure about the Volvo’s.

  14. skadill says:

Only way to freewheel an excavator is to pull the sun gear carrier assembly out of the final drives

  15. n506 says:

Could the valves not be opened and let the tracks turn so it tows a little easier? Seems a kinda hard way to do it.

  16. skadill says:

  20. joeyboygreen says:

why was someone not in it while you were trying to pull it out and they could of had the tracks moveing instead of dragging it. shows the good opperators from the bad.

  21. doggystarful says:

If that rope snapped when that man was next to it,it would of took his head off!

WHEN A TOW TRUCK WON’T DO GO BIGGER

  24. skadill says:

That ‘mound’ is all rock product from this pit that took them 3 days to build as an access road to the machine. This is a 30 foot deep silt settling pond at a gravel pit.The machine was submersed on its side right under water

  25. 646klein says:

why didnt you move some of the dirt in front of it instead of trying to pull it over that mound??would of been easyer
